A special series of afternoon yoga classes as part of the West London Buddhist Centre’s City Retreat.

Did you know that the aim of yoga postures, breathing techniques and relaxation methods is to prepare the body and mind for meditation? As the yogis of olden days sat in their Himalayan caves, they observed the animals around them stretching, humming, twisting… and in trying to imitate them, found this to be really beneficial to their practice, and to their life in general.

During these 4 days between Christmas and the New Year, Susanne will offer a daily all-level drop-in yoga class, 90 minutes long, consisting of a potpourri of hatha, restorative, and yin yoga sequences. It will focus on the neck, the shoulders, the lower back and the hips, to prepare you for sitting on your meditation cushion.

There will also be simple and yet profoundly calming breathing techniques, such as the bumblebee, the lion, the hissing breath, and the whispering breath. Last but not least, you will be able to explore the many different ways of using a bolster to get into a deep state of relaxation.

Whether you are an experienced yogi or just curious to test what this could do for your meditation practice, these classes may be just what you need over the holidays.

Susanne Haegele has been teaching yoga for 10 years and focuses on the therapeutic applications of yoga.
