A retreat is an opportunity to take a break from our daily lives and make space to enjoy the positive conditions that can arise as we come together as a community, meditating together, sharing meals, sharing walks and connecting with others on the retreat.

The title of the retreat is, ‘Body like a Mountain, Heart like the Ocean, Mind like the Sky’. During the retreat we will be taking advantage of our experience of the natural setting to support our practice, connecting with the earth, sea and sky to become more grounded and to develop more spaciousness in our hearts and minds.

The programme will include talks, meditation, reflection and discussion groups as well as some chanting and ritual. Weather permitting, we will also do some meditations outside, including periods of walking meditation and standing meditation.

We are delighted to be returning to Othona for our next in person retreat. Othona is a retreat centre (much loved by sangha members who have been on our previous retreats there) in a beautiful, peaceful setting on the Essex coast, just 5 minutes walk from the beach, amid salt marshes, woods and wildflower meadows. Accommodation is simple but comfortable with some single rooms available.

The retreat begins with supper at 7pm on Friday, 6 May and ends at 3pm on Sunday, 8 May.

‘It is the pauses which make beautiful the music of our lives.
It is the empty spaces which give richness and significance to them.
And it is stillness which makes them truly useful.’
