Jinananda’s wake

Dear sangha

Last week was Jinananda’s birthday so he was very much in my thoughts.  At our weekly team meeting we did a special Metta Bhavana meditation bearing him in mind and then on Wednesday (the day of his birthday) I went to the weekly outreach class in Ealing which Jinananda led for many years. Claudia, his wife, had suggested this and invited people who knew Jinananda to come along. We meditated, had some readings from his book, Meditating, and a few people shared memories and appreciations.

He was also in my mind because Suryaprabha’s short film of Jinananda’s wake is now available. For those of you who never met him, Jinananda was a very gifted meditation teacher and an ex-chair of the West London Buddhist Centre who died last December.  You can find out more about him on our ‘Remembering Jinananda’ website page where there is an obituary I wrote, a link to an obituary in the Guardian as well as the film of Jinananda’s funeral and the accompanying memorial booklet.

With metta
