Breathworks Mindfulness for Stress courses are helpful for anybody facing personal stress associated with work, family, health or relationships. We can also explore how greater self-awareness and compassion can help us with our responses to the multiple stressors of the global public health crisis, climate, governance and social justice, to whatever degree they might be impacting your life right now.

The whole group sessions will run from 11am-4pm on Saturdays. Generally speaking we will run from 11am-1pm, have an hour break, and run from 2-4pm with a few mini-breaks in between. Through theory, guided meditation, discussion, personal inquiry and ‘enactments’ you will be introduced to a number of simple yet powerful mindfulness practices by Breathworks Accredited Teachers. We will limit the whole group size to 25 (including team) and we will be making use of the Zoom ‘break-out room’ function to get the chance to know each other more personally.

Home Practice

As well as the online sessions we would like to help you build the foundations of a regular home practice. All the material on this course will be provided digitally (Google classrooms), you will have access to guided meditations, and each week you’ll receive an email with key learnings from the sessions. In addition, there will be three optional sessions on Sundays 6-7pm for an informal ‘home practice’ group to connect, talk about your meditation, any of the other home practices or to ask any questions.

You may like to purchase The Little Mindfulness Workbook by Gary Hennessey and Breathworks’ Mindfulness for Stress practice booklet but this is optional.

If you want to try out this approach or have any questions about the courses, we run a Mindfulness Drop-In session every Monday from 1-2pm for anybody wishing to explore secular mindfulness using the Breathworks approach.

Suitability and Booking

Most people completing the course report a boost in psychological and physical well-being and find new sources of resilience, joy, kindness and calm to cope better with the stresses and strains of daily life.

Although mindfulness can be an effective practice and be a support for anxiety, low-mood, sleep disturbances or chronic-pain, it is not appropriate for everybody. If you are currently suffering from clinical depression or in acute pain for example, we wouldn’t recommend doing the course. The course cannot substitute for medical intervention or professional counselling but in many cases, can be taken alongside them.

Embarking on the course is quite an undertaking and as we become more sensitive we can start to touch into difficult thoughts and emotions so it’s important to make sure you are well supported during the course, which includes a period of relative stability (as much as we can predict at this time!).

Once you have booked on to a course, final confirmation will be subject to completion of a short questionnaire and an informal discussion with the course leader about the course’s suitability for you at this time. This will help you and the course leader explore how best to support your process over the 8-weeks. If it is decided that the course is not suitable at this stage a full refund will be offered.
