To live a truly rich and fulfilling life, with an open heart, we need to move beyond our literalistic, everyday mind – that part of us that’s constantly figuring out what the best deal is, how to get to work on time, and so on and so on… So imagination, creativity and faith are essential to the Buddhist path towards freedom, and this course takes you into this area of practice by exploring a very important symbol of the Enlightened mind – the mandala of the five Buddhas. We’ll look at the traditional images, myths and symbols of the mandala in depth, but the emphasis is always practical: how can we apply the profound wisdom they embody in our own lives, including in meditation.
This course is one of our ‘Basic Buddhism’ courses, which go into key Buddhist teachings in some depth. They are open to everyone but intended primarily for people who have learnt to meditate. The course is an excellent follow-on from one of our Introduction to Buddhism courses, and is a great foundation for our ‘Going Deeper’ classes and retreats. It would be ideal if you’ve been coming to some or our drop-in Buddhism classes, like Sangha Night or Buddhism in the City, and want a more in-depth understanding of this key Buddhist teaching. However, you’re also very welcome to attend if you’re new to Buddhism. If you’d like to learn to meditate before you come, or alongside the course, you could come to some of our drop-in meditation classes or, for a more thorough grounding, one of our Introduction to Meditation courses.
There is a small and strictly limited number of low-cost bursary places available for those who cannot afford the course fee. Please contact the Centre office if you wish to apply.
The easiest way to book is online - just click the button below.
