When one knows the solitude of silence and feels the joy of quietness, one is then free from fear….and one feels the joy of the Dhamma. – Dhammapada

On this retreat we will be exploring the importance of joy as a spiritual practice. In Buddhism, joy is seen as integral to awakening our hearts and minds, one of the 7 Enlightenment Factors. Sometimes people think that the main focus of Buddhism is dukkha, or suffering. The Buddha said that he taught two things – suffering and the end of suffering. All the teachings and practices of the Dharma offer the opportunity for freeing our hearts and minds while moving towards and embodying joy as a spiritual quality.

The programme will include meditation, mindful movement, talks, reflection, discussion, mantra chanting and ritual as well as time in small groups. There will be plenty of free time for walks, hanging out with other retreatants over a cup of tea and enjoying the beautiful gardens, grounds and ritual spaces of Vajrasana retreat centre.

A retreat is a wonderful opportunity to spend some time away from home in supportive conditions which allow for a depth and continuity of practise that may not be possible in our everyday lives. Come and join us on the joyful occasion of our first in person retreat for two years. Enjoy coming together as a spiritual community, making and deepening connections with each other as we experience the joy of practising the Dhamma together, the joy of Sangha.

WLBC will not be able to arrange/organise lift-sharing to and from the venue, however, the team will help arrange taxis to the station on the Sunday.

Covid Precautions

The retreat centre, Vajrasana, is now in full use, so please note that this means you will be sharing rooms in the accommodation blocks. In order to minimise the risk of Covid-19 on the retreat, we require you to test yourself twice before you come: i) three days before the retreat starts and ii) before leaving home on the day of the retreat. We will be asking for verbal confirmation of your test result as you arrive at Vajrasana. We will be wearing face coverings for chanting. Please note that we will send an update, should the guidelines change in any way in the run up to the retreat.
