CBT looks at the link between how your thoughts affect what you choose to do and how you feel emotionally. It is a goal-focussed therapy that takes a practical approach to developing alternative coping strategies. As it is goal focussed, we would identify specific areas that you would like to focus on and would work specifically on achieving your goals. CBT takes into account things that you have experienced in your past however the focus will largely be on what is happening for you in the present and how that might be improved.
