Letting in and letting go – being real

A retreat is an opportunity to take a break from our daily lives and make space to enjoy the positive conditions that can arise as we come together as a community, meditating together, sharing meals, sharing walks and connecting with others on the retreat.

During the retreat we will be exploring the central Buddhist teachings of letting in and letting go. Here, the Buddha encourages us to be ‘for real’. Suffering arises when we resist the reality of our experience – resisting unpleasant experience through aversion, or resisting the impermanence of pleasant experience through grasping. Being for real involves turning towards unpleasant experience, however unwelcome and letting go of everything that we cherish. How can we apply this radical practice of letting in and letting go in our daily lives?

If we can accept the rise and fall of experience as it is – not just in our heads, but in our heart of hearts – the problem of suffering will be solved.
(Sangharakshita, Living with Kindness)

The programme will include talks, meditation, reflection and discussion groups as well as chanting and ritual. There will be plenty of free time to
go for walks or chat over a cup of tea with others on the retreat.

We are delighted to be returning to Othona for this our first in person retreat of 2024. Othona is a retreat centre (much loved by sangha members who have been on our previous retreats there) in a beautiful, peaceful setting on the Essex coast, just 5 minutes walk from the beach, amid salt marshes, woods and wildflower meadows.

Accommodation is simple but comfortable with some single rooms available.

Lifts can be arranged. Email us at info@westlondonbuddhistcentre.com.
