During this weekend we will engage with the Buddhas first teaching following his Enlightenment, known as the Four Noble Truths. This teaching expresses the fruit of the Buddhas six years of questing for the answer to the problem of suffering, that culminated in his awakening under the Bodhi tree. In this teaching the Buddha presents as the physician who understands the nature of human suffering – its inevitability, its orgin, the possibility of its ceasing and the path leading to this glorious realisation of our full potential. Join us for a weekend of exploring the Dharma and a deepening of our sense of community in the lovely surrounds of Othona on the Essex Coast.

Going on retreat is one of the most powerful of Buddhist practices – taking time and space, surrounded by nature, to let go of the pressures of daily life and allow the mind naturally to relax and open. There’ll be a simple programme of meditation, study/discussion groups and devotional practice, with plenty of time to do nothing, go for walks or hang out together.

Our venue is Othona, a comfortable but simple, ecologically sensitive retreat centre about two hours drive from WLBC – a beautiful, peaceful setting on the Essex coast just a few metres from the beach, amid salt marshes, woods and wildflower meadows. The weekend is a chance to come back to ourselves and reconnect with what’s most important in our life; a chance also to connect with others, finding mutual support and friendship as we live together in harmonious community. In conditions like these, even just a few days can have a strong and surprisingly lasting effect. All welcome.
