Subhadassi
A freelance writer, teacher and facilitator, Subhadassi has been involved in a range of Triratna projects over many years. From study and urban centres to his current role as Ethics Order Convenor for Triratna, he offers a creative and inclusive approach to connecting people and the Dharma. Listen to an example here with his talk ‘Here, Then’ about dharma practice in challenging times.
Subhadassi became our President in early 2024. He will be visiting us regularly to get to know us, do some teaching (and some writing if we’re lucky!) and share the Dharma. Keep an eye out for notices of his visits.
Subhadassi was born in a small village in Yorkshire in 1967. After several years of spiritual searching, he came across Triratna in Leeds and was ordained in 1992 at the age of 24.
His name means ‘the one who sees – or discovers – the beautiful.’ Soon after being ordained, he moved to Newcastle with three friends to set up a buddhist centre there, and since then has been involved in a retreat centre project and also chairing Brighton Buddhist Centre. He currently works as the Order ethics Convenor.
He lives with his partner and 16-year-old boy/girl twins on the South Downs in East Sussex. He loves being a Dad. Creative writing and poetry are also very important to him. One of his great joys is multi day walking and camping, or cycling and camping. He loves being up a hill whatever the weather.
