Kamalashila writes: ‘To help people change and overcome problems, Western psychotherapists analysed them – e.g. Jung distinguished the functions of sensing, intuition, thinking, and feeling. The Buddha was also an analyser; he taught using special classifications of mental states. This talk explores what eventually became the Abhidharma, ‘overview dharma,’ combining knowledge of the mind with transforming it. It’s similar to western psychotherapy but with a difference that makes all the difference – Abhidharma is about awakening.’
