This course runs over eight Mondays 13 September to 1 November, 7-9.30pm. We hope that we can run this event in person, if not it may move online.

On this eight-week Mindfulness for Stress and Mental Health course we’ll use the Breathworks approach to learn how to use mindfulness to become comfortable with the discomfort of the every day stresses of work, home life and relationships. Over the course we will be learning a range of meditation and mindfulness practices that will empower you to become more aware, create the space to respond and not react to situations, and develop compassion for ourselves and others.

Home Practice

As well as the in-person sessions we would like to help you build the foundations of a regular home practice. All the material on this course will be provided digitally and you will have access to guided meditations. The course includes a copy of The Little Mindfulness Workbook by Gary Hennessey to support your learning.

Taster session

If you want to try out this approach or have any questions about the courses, we run a Mindfulness Drop-In session every Monday from 1-2pm for anybody wishing to have a little taster session before they book.

We will also be running 1 hour taster sessions in early September.

Suitability

Most people completing the course report a boost in psychological and physical well-being and find new sources of resilience, joy, kindness and calm to cope better with the stresses and strains of daily life.

Although mindfulness can be an effective practice and be a support for anxiety, low-mood, sleep disturbances or chronic-pain, it is not appropriate for everybody. If you are currently suffering from clinical depression, in acute pain, going through a recent bereavement or in a major life event (moving jobs, moving flat), we wouldn’t recommend doing the course yet.

The course cannot substitute for medical intervention or professional counselling but in many cases, can be taken alongside them. Embarking on the course is quite an undertaking and as we become more sensitive we can start to touch into difficult thoughts and emotions so it’s important to make sure the timing is suitable, and/or that you are well supported during the course, which includes a period of relative stability (as much as we can predict at this time!).

Once you have booked on to a course, final confirmation will be subject to completion of a short questionnaire and an informal discussion with the course leader about the course’s suitability for you at this time. This will help you and the course leader explore how best to support your process over the 8-weeks. If it is decided that the course is not suitable at this stage a full refund will be offered.
