Liberate yourself from what holds you back
Buddhist offers the skills to free ourselves from whatever keeps us trapped in a mundane and repetitive cycle. Scrolling endlessly without paying attention. Replaying a conversation in our mind. Repeating the same unhelpful behaviour again and again. But how do we liberate ourselves – and what does real freedom mean?
In this course, we explore three of these traps (‘fetters’), approaches that prevent us from reaching our full potential. What are they?
- fixed view of self (or habit)
- doubt and indecision (or vagueness)
- following rituals for their own end (or superficiality)
We take a good look at these obstacles and see how they play out in our lives, both individually and collectively. Once we get a sense of what is there, we explore ways in which we can
loosen and eventually break them.
Participants will receive the book A Taste of Freedom as part of the course.
- Rediscover what freedom truly means in the context of Buddhist practice.
- Engage with powerful symbols like the Dakini to unlock deeper aspects of your being.
- Be supported by a skilled teaching team with decades of combined practice experience
- Join a like-minded community at the West London Buddhist Centre, a space rooted in kindness and clarity.
What You’ll Explore Each Week
Week 1: What is Freedom?
We begin by asking some essential questions: What does freedom really mean? What am I ready to let go of in order to feel free?
Week 2: The Dakini – A Symbol of Liberation
Meet the Dakini—a dynamic, wild, and wise archetype of feminine freedom in Buddhist tradition. She’s not here to comfort us, but to awaken us.
What part of the Dakini do I resist—and deeply need to embody?
Week 3: The Spiral Path
Growth is rarely linear. How can I trust the spiral, rather than resist it?
Week 4: Breaking Habits
We are what we repeatedly do. Learn how to dissolve old patterns and live more intentionally. Which habit no longer serves the person I’m becoming?
Week 5: Breaking Superficiality
When we live from the surface, life can feel scattered, careless, or disconnected. What would it look like to bring more depth and care into my daily life?
Week 6: Breaking Vagueness
Vagueness arises when we hesitate to choose. What truth have I been avoiding? What clarity wants to emerge?
